Clint Eastwood - Actor, Director, Producer, Politician, Musician,
Composer and Businessman. Clint is another star who has been lured to
the romance of the restaurant business.
Eastwood has been a resident of Carmel, California for the past twenty
years. In 1986 he bought the historic Mission Ranch, a 12 acre site
nestled along the Carmel river outside the City of Carmel.
The ranch, built in the 1880's, had been in the same family for forty
years prior to Clint purchasing it. While it was formerly a dairy, the
ranch evolved into a tourist destination that boasted several cottages
and a popular restaurant. Over the years the restaurant became a
meeting place for the cottage guests, tourists and locals alike.
Called the Mission Ranch Restaurant, the menu specialties include
Prime Rib, Steaks, BBQ Ribs and Spuds. Recently they have added
California cuisine, but the ranch specialties still are the most
popular.
Prior to purchasing the Mission Ranch, Clint tried to get his
headquarter's office building plans approved for downtown Carmel, but
was denied because of the overly strict planning and development rules
the city had adopted.
Not to be deterred, he decided to run for mayor of Carmel with the
desire to loosen some of the very strict ordinances. He won the mayoral
race by a landslide of 72.5% of the vote. Shortly after being installed
as mayor, Clint got his office building plans approved and it opened in
the late 1980s.
As part of the ground floor of the office building, Clint opened his
now famous "Hog's Breath Inn." The restaurant is a "must-visit" place
for all tourists who visit the beautiful Carmel area.
The restaurant menu features today's cuisine and many of the entrees
are named after characters Clint played in his movies. You'll find the
"Dirty Harry" dinner which is a fresh-ground chuck steak topped with
sauteed in wine mushrooms. There's the "Coogan's Bluff" New York Steak
and the "High Plains Drifter's" cut of Prime Rib.
The Eastwood office building also has several stores and shops, a
visitor's center and offices on the upper floors.
This month Clint has introduced his new line of golf clothing apparel
that will soon be showing up in golf pro shops and sporting goods stores
around the nation.
And, if that's not enough - Eastwood just introduced his new "Pale Rider
Ale" in his two Carmel restaurants. The new beer beverage has a
distinctive taste to satisfy any micro-brew connoisseur's palate. This
new micro-brew will soon be available in bars and stores throughout the
West Coast.
Like many of the movie and television stars, Clint certainly has his
hand in many business ventures outside his acting profession.
